Luis B. Alaniz
KINGSVILLE - Luis B. Alaniz, formerly employed by King Ranch Inc. and Roberts and Roberts Corp., died Aug. 7, 1999. He was 47.
Survivors include his wife, Ninfa; three sons, Lucio Vasquez Evaristo Vasquez Jr., and Joe Cruz, all of Kingsville; a daughter, Nancy Alaniz of Kingsville; a sister, Adela Gonzalez of Kingsville; six brothers, Elecaudio Alaniz Jr., of Corpus Christi, Rene and Jesus Alaniz, both of Kingsville, David and Daniel Alaniz, both of Orange Grove and Roy Alaniz of Sarita; and five grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
Zela R. Cates
ROBSTOWN - Zela Rae Cates, a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Par Avance Club and American Association of Retired Persons, died Aug. 9, 1999. She was 94.
Survivors include a daughter, Zula Langley of Corpus Christi; a son, Clayton Cates of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Robstown Cemetery.

Rosa G. Espinoza
Rosa G. Espinoza died Aug. 8, 1999. She was 61.
Survivors include a son, John Lucio of Corpus Christi; a daughter, Luisa Rodriguez of Corpus Christi; a brother, Alfonso Garza of Corpus Christi; and four grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Aug. 11 at Memorial Funeral Home, Crosstown Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in San Pedro Cemetery. Odem.
Laurel L. Evans
Laurel L. Evans, a member of St. John's Baptist Church, died Aug. 6, 1999. She was 71.
Survivors include her husband, John; two sons, Cedric and John Evans, both of Corpus Christi; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 12 at St. John's Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

LuVerna Hollingshead
ROCKPORT - LuVerna Hollingshead, a licensed vocational nurse, former owner of the Sportsman Lodge and the Holiday Inn, both in Aransas Pass, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Citizens Club, died Aug. 7, 1999. She was 80.
Survivors include three sons, Dick Hollingshead Jr. of Corpus Christi, Norman and Lanny Hollingshead, both of Houston; a sister, Ida Cooley of Bossier City, La.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Rockport. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.
Alejandro Z. Jimenez
Alejandro Zamora Jimenez, a retired employee of Texas Employment Commission and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, died Aug. 8, 1999. He was 91.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Jimenez Sr. of Corpus Christi; a sister, Petra Jimenez; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Memorial Funeral Home, Crosstown Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Ada K. Lange
Ada Klug Lange, a member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, former president of the Gardenia Garden Club and a former real estate agent, died Aug. 8, 1999. She was 97.
Survivors include two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 11 at Seaside Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.
Jesus A. Pena Jr.
HOUSTON - Jesus "Jesse" Alfonso Pena Jr., a senior customer representative with Houston Light & Power Co. and a Jehovah's Witness, died Aug. 7, 1999. He was 44.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine Pena of Houston; his father, Jesus Pena of Corpus Christi; his mother and stepfather, Audelia and Pablo Longoria of Wharton; a sister, Mary Alice Martinez of Sugar Land; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Pena of Corpus Christi.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 10 in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Corpus Christi.

Raquela Rojas
ALICE - Raquela Rojas, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, died Aug. 8, 1999. She was 51.
Survivors include a brother, Julio Rojas of Alice; two stepbrothers, Ruben Cardona of Alice and Cristobal Cardona of Grapevine; and four stepsisters, Alicia Cardona of Lewisville and Delia Lopez, Dora Rodriguez and Dalia Cruz, all of Alice.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Roberson's Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be in New Collins Cemetery.
Sadie T. Smoot
ROCKPORT - Sadie Thelma Smoot, a member of Coastal Oaks Baptist Church, died Aug. 9, 1999. She was 86.
Survivors include a son, Robert McKinley of Corpus Christi; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 in Aransas Memorial Park.

Leonor Solis
ROCKPORT - Leonor Solis died Aug. 9, 1999. She was 68.
Survivors include her husband, Fidel; four sons, Rolando Solis of Houston and Richard, Roy and Fidel Solis Jr., all of Rockport; four daughters, Nora Dodgen, Norena Jimenez and Norelia and Norma Solis, all of Rockport; four brothers, Simon Garcia of Houston, Benigno, Patricio and Tomas Garcia Jr., all of Donna; three sisters, Maria Hernandez, Marcelina Zuniga and Maria Alba, all of Donna; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Rockport Cemetery.
Brian Spraggins
Brian Spraggins died Aug. 6, 1999. He was 29.
Survivors include his wife, Cheandra; his parents, Vicki Hartman of Amarillo and Dale Spraggins of Bayside; a brother, James Spraggins of Bayside; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Hope of Spinnett and Cleo Spraggins of Canyon.

Ignacio Valdez Sr.
OGLETHORPE, Ga. - Ignacio Valdez Sr., a refrigerator technician, died Aug. 4, 1999. He was 70.
Survivors include his wife, Esmeralda; five sons, Albert, Danny and David Valdez, all of Corpus Christi and Bobby and Ignacio Valdez Jr., both of Oglethorpe; eight daughters, Olga, Hilda, Diana and Shirley Valdez, all of Corpus Christi and Marisol, Vienna, Tina and Priscilla Valdez, all of Oglethorpe; a brother, Benito Valdez of Robstown; 29 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Ramon Funeral Home, Robstown. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 11 in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Robstown.

KENEDY - Allie Lucille Vickery, a homemaker, former telephone operator and member of Kenedy Church of Christ, died Aug. 8, 1999. She was 98.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce McClay of Buffalo, Minn. ; a son, O.S. "Pancho" Vickery of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 in Kenedy Cemetery.

PORT ARANSAS - John Ex. Wiggins, who formerly served in the Navy, died Aug. 7, 1999. He was 62.
Survivors include his wife, Opal; two sons, Dealon Wiggins of Port Aransas and John Wiggins III of Royce City; a daughter, Dena Coleman of Hardin; his mother, Dean Pearl McMillen of Liberty; four brothers, Dempsey Wiggins of Liberty, Lewis McMillen of Raywood, George McMillen of Vidor and Floyd McMillen of Dayton; two sisters, Barbara Belcher and Sonja McMillen, both of Liberty; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at Sterling Funeral Home, Dayton. Burial will be in Ryan Funeral Home, Dayton.
